What is ATS and Why Does it Matter?
An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is software that scans your resume before a human ever sees it. If your resume doesn't pass, it goes straight to the rejection folder — no matter how qualified you are.
Use a Clean, Single-Column Format
Avoid tables, text boxes, graphics, and multiple columns. Use a single-column layout with clear section headers: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills, Certifications.
Match Keywords from the Job Description
Copy-paste the job description into a word cloud tool. The most frequent words are your keywords. Use them naturally throughout your resume — especially in your summary and experience sections.
Use Standard Section Headings
Don't get creative — use 'Work Experience' not 'My Journey'. ATS systems look for standard labels.
Quantify Everything
Instead of 'managed a team', write 'managed a team of 12, reducing delivery time by 30%'. Numbers make your achievements scannable and credible.
Keep it to 1–2 Pages
For 0–5 years experience: 1 page. For 5+ years: 2 pages max. Recruiters spend an average of 7 seconds on the first scan — make every line count.
